Tax credits and deduction are available for both residential and commercial buildings. Currently, builders can qualify for a $2000 per house credit for achieving at least 50% less energy use than the 2003 International Energy Conservation Code. Homeowners can qualify for up to $1500 for certain energy efficiency improvements. They can also get 30% of the cost of a geothermal heat pump with no limit!
For Commercial buildings, you can get a tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot if your building (new or existing) achieves at least 50% better than ASHRAE 90.1 standard requirements.
